Prof. Judah Nadich

Prof. Judah Nadich passed away last week (NY Times, JTA). He was a student of R. Moshe Aharon Poleyeff and R. Moshe Soloveichik in one period of his life, and then of Prof. Louis Ginzberg and Prof. Saul Lieberman. He wrote a very popular book titled Eisenhower and the Jews and a few excellent scholarly books about "Legends of the Jews" (link), from which I have benefited greatly despite our differing ideologies. He was also the (Conservative) rabbi of the Park Avenue Synagogue and a president of the (Conservative) Rabbinical Assembly. He was an early and vocal advocate for civil rights and ritual egalitarianism.

Here is a long biography of his activities in World War II based on an interview with him: link

I went to elementary school with his grandson and, many years ago, knew his family well. May the Lord console them among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
