Drinking on Purim

R. Mordechai Willig on drinking on Purim and during the year: link

He recommends following the view of the Rema (Orach Chaim 695:1) -- drinking some wine (in the morning) and taking a nap. Then drinking a little wine during the meal. He also states that there is no mitzvah to drink at night and the mitzvah only applies to wine and not to liquor or beer.

In general, he states that we live in an openly promiscuous society where we are similar to someone who sees an adulteress woman (sotah be-kilkulah). We therefore should refrain from drinking alcohol (see Rashi on Num. 6:2).
